Good idea, but executed poorly

I understand that this book started as an audio play on BBC. I wanted to love it, but it did not translate well onto paper.
The premise is fun. It is a collection of short stories centered around a haunted hotel on cursed ground. Each story has its own characters and some are entertaining enough. In some cases, the characters are not the cookie cutter horror victims and are actually quite diverse.
However, the recurring theme is not really deepened. The main arc is too tenuous and there is not much development or resolution which either expleans or um.. concludes the arc. Yes, there is a big event at the end, but that only ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. Which would be nice if there were any cliffs to hang onto.
