Stephanie Jane reviewed Root of Murder by Lauren Carr
Intricate mystery
4 stars
I think that The Root Of Murder is Lauren Carr's most intricate Lovers In Crime mystery to date. Again we have Cameron and Joshua's personal storylines woven around those of the criminal investigation, but this case is quite different from the previous three mysteries in both its reach and its tone. I don't want to write too much detail here and risk inadvertently giving something critical away to visitors who have not yet read The Root Of Murder. Suffice to say that readers will need to really concentrate on all the clues if they want to crack this case before Cameron does!

There is a little less ice cream in this story than in previous installments and I'm still waiting for someone to take poor Admiral for a good walk. However Poppy and JJ's relationship has rapidly progressed to wedding bells which is lovely and Tracy spots an opportunity to use the celebrations for a double purpose. I felt the family really began to gel through this novel with their previous emotional distances being overcome. In some ways I felt that this gave The Root Of Murder a good sense of closure, although I am sure that Lauren will already be plotting another dark and devious crime for Cameron and Joshua to solve!
