From the city's seamy underbelly to the gleaming towers inhabited by immortal beings, Detective Christian Walker and rookie Detective Deena …
There’s only three things that happen in the book:
Sal meets someone who talks too much and is very keen to let Sal know she is disliked.
Sal spends lots of time running around while the enemy shoots magic bolts like a video game character boss.
Sal fires gun. Gun goes boom.
Sal sulks about all the bad things happening to her and what an unlovable person she is.
It’s not bad, but the world building is a thin tissue paper around the fight scenes. It’s sort of like Ready Player Go if you took out the pop culture references and added in a bunch of self loathing.
ICE CREAM MAN continues with four more strange, sad stories. Plus: more is revealed about the mischievous Ice Cream Man …
Kurtis J. Wiebe: Rat queens (2018)
"Having escaped the nefarious cluthces of the insidious trickster Castiwyr, the Rat Queens return to Palisade with piles of gold …
Tom Taylor: All-new Wolverine (2017)
"From the stars comes death! An alien ship. A dying passenger. And two words that will forever change Wolverine's life. …
I wish it had stayed with the character as a child instead of skipping around. There’s lots of good stuff here, but it doesn’t establish any kind of plot or structure.
But it is very nice to see real fear inducing science fiction in a comic book.
I know it’s not deep and insightful and it’s not Alison Bechdel, but damned if I didn’t love this book. It’s got Ariel Scrag references. Middle School lunch boxes. She is thrilled when she gets to wear prescription glasses for the first time!
